About Enterprise Development Institute
Our History
Established on March 15, 1999, under the West Bengal Society Registration Act, 1961, the Enterprise Development Institute (EDI) is a non-profit autonomous training institute dedicated to strengthening entrepreneurship and MSME development activities. Promoted by the Government of India, the Government of West Bengal, and the Bengal National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BNCCI), EDI operates from its campus at Plot No. 194, Block IB, Sector III, Salt Lake, Kolkata-700106.
Our Legacy
Constructed under the 'Assistance to Training Institutions' scheme of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, EDI's campus serves as a hub for various programs. These include entrepreneurship development programs, awareness camps, faculty development programs, small business management courses, capacity-building, and skill-development initiatives. The institute caters to diverse target groups such as unemployed youth, women, science and technology professionals, SME managers and entrepreneurs, self-help group members, minorities, and both rural and urban poor. Several central and state government organizations sponsor these short-term training courses.
Our Collaboration
In collaboration with Netaji Subhas Open University (NSOU), EDI offers certificate courses tailored for retiring defense personnel. These courses encompass entrepreneurship development, small business management, travel and tourism management, and export-import management. Additionally, MSME entrepreneurs receive specialized training in areas like marketing, export-import procedures, financial management, retail management, communication skills, and the floriculture and horticulture business.
The Opportunities
We are pleased to highlight the success of our recent job fair, organized by EDI, which attracted approximately 50,000 ex-servicemen. This event provided a platform for these skilled individuals to connect with numerous reputable companies, facilitating interviews and potential employment opportunities.
